The Veil

Although you made a claim yesterday

it may not be accurate today.

Your ego can wait.

As information emerges

embrace convergence.

We all have our fears

but one thing should be clear:

Our souls need to hear

what is right, what is true.

We exhaust ourselves

with labels and veils

to appeal

to someone we don’t know.

Science is the new God,

experts: the apostles—

but science was always meant

to be questioned;

as life is ever-changing

discoveries call for rearranging.

What becomes of a fact

if proven untrue?

It’s up to you.

Be accepted by the people

who are more adrift than you are?

or step out of the box—

invest in the future.

Not the feel-goods of today

avoiding conflict to stay

what— happy?

Happiness is a feeling;

highs and lows always fleeting

but Peace is a state of being

and seeing that life is more than this.

We’re presented challenges

to make us stronger

yet prefer the easier way out.

So we look around

for someone else to tell us what is

because we don’t have time for this.

Gotta get to work

to buy overpriced plastic

but the reality is:

If we just accept what we hear

without questioning it ourselves

we will always be products

on a system of shelves

until we are empty shells

with no personality—

no humanity—

giving up the differences

that help us balance all this.

Never forget this is your home too;

your mind is your castle,

don’t let it crumble.

On your stairs let them stumble

because you are stronger

than any lie that’s left at your door.
